He dubbed them the “Titie Whops", no one can remember why and put aside his drawing to pitch or catch every game they played. From the mound, or behind home plate, he commanded his team from baseball’s two most powerful positions. He relished being, as he put it, " in on all the plays. “He “liked people to do things his way," one of the gang recalled.
